Drawing Dead (1993), my first published novel, features a reluctant hero named Joe Crow, who gets involved in a counterfeit comic book scam.

Short Money (1995), a prequel to Drawing Dead, is based on my first (unpublished) novel, Crow.

The Mortal Nuts (1996) is set at the Minnesota State Fair. The main character is a taco vendor named Axel Speeter. Joe Crow does not appear in this novel, but Crow's father, Sam O'Gara, plays the part of Axel's best friend. Hard to find.

Joe Crow returns in Ring Game (1997), my longest and most problematic novel. I think this one contains some of my best scenes, but I may have been a bit self-indulgent in the plotting...

Mrs. Million (1999) is about a schoolteacher who wins nine million bucks in the lottery and offers a $1,000,000 reward to anyone who can return her no good runaway husband to her. This book won the Minnesota Book Award.

Rag Man (2001) is a tragic comedy about a man who commits the ultimate passive-aggressive act, and what it does to him. I like to think of it as MacBeth meets Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, with a sprinkling of Straw Dogs thrown in for savor.

Doohickey (2002) is a screwball comedy about a guy named Nick Fashon who has a run of bad luck. It's also my first true "mystery" novel.

The Prop (2006) is a semi-comic quasi-thriller/mystery/caper about a professional poker player..
